Back in the day when my bro and I played for the Kansas City Jr Blues:
The Jr. Blues, a perennial regional and national force in highschool rugby, took down roughly 35 players and fielded 2 teams for the weekend. Their “A” side team started off strong with a 24-00 victory over Allen RFC (Texas) followed by a dominating 29-00 victory over Douglas County. The trademark in these games and throughout the tournament for the Jr. Blues was a physical mentality and tough and aggressive line of defense that would only surrender one try the entire weekend. This defense was anchored by solid play from flyhalf and lock by the Swanepoel brothers, Johann and JP. The brothers, born in South Africa, offer the experience and toughness that will be sure to solidify an already talented Jr. Blues squad.
In the championship match, the Jr. Blues went into halftime trailing 7-0. Led by strong senior leadership, the Jr. Blues battled back and tied the game about 5 minutes into the second half when captain and 8 man David McDonough broke through for a try followed by a Johann Swanepoel conversion. The Jr. Blues ultimately captured the lead when Johann later followed with a penalty conversion with about 10 minutes left in the game.
I heard it was awesome to see you and your brother on the rugby field!
